Situated along the James River at St. Frances / St. Emma in historic Powhatan County you will find Belmead Stables & Riding Club. Over 30 miles of horseback riding trails meander centuries old hardwoods and transverse creeks. The James River with nearby swamp provides an appreciative scenic trek. Numerous large crop fields allow for peaceful travel. All of this as well as over 30 stalls and pasture boarding facility on 1,000 acres of protected and secure conservation property for your enjoyment.

Tribute to Bill Catlett Founder of Belmead Stables (1942-2009)
Bill was a compassionate man, a good neighbor, a loving husband and believed in the pure goodness of helping others. Bill loved Belmead and worked with the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament to lend a hand whenever possible and over the years their bond grew enormously. Bill had a vision to restore a small part of the grandeur that Belmead once knew. He could see that with hard work and dedication he could lead the way to create an equestrian oasis. With its location along the James River, the work at Belmead commenced blazing trails through-out the property, constructing new fence lines and repairing its run down barns. With the help of volunteers and countless hours of labor, his vision came to fruition. Bill suddenly left this life and was laid to rest at one of Belmead’s Cemeterys. The void has never been filled, but his dream lives on in his wife Marilyn and in others who knew him. The Belmead Stables and Riding Club are dedicated to him.
